Pharmacy Residency Program

Training Tomorrow’s Top Pharmacists

At Our Lady of the Lake, we offer post-graduate education to develop clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions. Our commitment to quality education prepares pharmacists to become highly qualified independent practitioners.

PGY1 Pharmacy Residency

The post-graduate year one (PGY1) program allows residents to deliver evidence-based, cost-effective care in unit-based and multidisciplinary settings. PGY1 residents hone their leadership and project management skills through participation in practice-based research and departmental and organizational quality improvement initiatives. Residents who complete this program are eligible for board certification and eligible for PGY2 residency training.

PGY2 Critical Care Residency

The post-graduate year two (PGY2) program prepares residents to become competent critical care pharmacy specialists with exposure to a wide variety of critically ill patient populations. Residents have opportunities to function independently as a practitioner to provide improved patient outcomes and assist in quality improvement initiatives for the institution. Duties include but are not limited to: a longitudinal research project, formal presentations, in-services, medication use evaluations, drug monographs, precepting of pharmacy students and PGY1 residents and medication safety management. Our PGY2 residents provide care for patients in medical, surgical, cardiovascular, trauma, neuroscience, pediatric and neonatal intensive care settings. Residents also gain experience in emergency medicine and infectious diseases.
